If you’re a busy mom struggling to stay consistent with reading your Bible, I want you to know—you’re not alone.
If I’m being honest, this is something I still struggle with.
I’m in a season of motherhood where my days are full—beautiful, exhausting, and full. There’s not a lot of room for “extra.”
Our mornings are pretty routine. We wake up, eat breakfast, get dressed, and then it’s go-time. Playing, tending, answering needs… all day long. And while it truly is such a blessing, it also means there’s usually no space for quiet or stillness.
In this season, finding time for Bible reading as a busy mom doesn’t look the way I imagined—but I’m learning it still matters.
Most days, I only get a few minutes to myself here and there—if that.
And because of that, spending time in the Bible doesn’t always look the way I wish it did.
I would love to be the kind of mom who wakes up early, sits down with her coffee, and starts her day in the Word. But right now? That’s just not my reality.
Right now, it looks like squeezing in a short devotional before I’m needed again…
Or waiting until the end of the day—when the house is finally quiet, and it’s just me and God on the couch.
The Struggle No One Talks About
If you’ve ever wondered how to find time to read the Bible when life feels nonstop, I’ve been there too.
One of the biggest things that gets in the way for me?
Distractions.
My phone.
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve picked it up “for a second”… and before I know it, I’m deep in scrolling, and two hours are gone.
Two hours.
And then comes the guilt.
That feeling of, “I just wasted all that time… I could have spent that with Jesus.”
It’s frustrating. It’s discouraging. And honestly, it can make you feel like you’re falling short.
If you’ve ever felt that way too—you’re not alone.
What Changed for Me
The reason I started wanting to read my Bible more intentionally wasn’t out of obligation.
It was because I wanted to hear God more clearly.
When you spend time in the Word, something shifts.
The more you read, the more you begin to know Him.
The more you know Him, the easier it is to recognize His voice.
That quiet, gentle whisper in the middle of the chaos of motherhood…
The nudge.
The peace.
The guidance.
You start to discern it more clearly.
You start to feel His presence in your everyday life—not just in the “quiet moments,” but in the middle of the noise too.
The more consistent I became with daily Bible reading, even in small moments, the more clearly I began to hear God’s voice.
It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect
Here’s what I’m learning in this season:
It doesn’t have to look perfect to matter.
Some nights, I can sit and read for a while.
Other nights, I’m so exhausted I barely make it through a few verses.
Sometimes it’s 30 minutes.
Sometimes it’s longer.
Sometimes it’s just me sitting there, pouring my heart out to Jesus in prayer.
And that counts.
It all counts.
What matters most isn’t perfection—it’s consistency.
It’s choosing, again and again, to come back.
What My Bible Time Actually Looks Like
Most nights, it’s simple.
The kids are in bed.
The house is finally quiet.
And I sit on the couch with my Bible—tired, but ready.
No perfect setup. No aesthetic routine.
Just me and God.
I use a simple NIV personal-size Bible (large print—because tired mom eyes are real), along with some tabs and highlighters to help me stay engaged and find things easily.
Nothing fancy—just tools that make it a little easier to stay consistent in a busy season.
