If you are standing in your living room looking at a pile of colorful books, wondering how on earth you are supposed to teach your preschoolers at home, take a deep breath.

When other moms talk about wanting to start teaching their little ones at home, the absolute biggest fear I hear—and the one I felt deep in my own heart—is the fear of messing up your children’s education. It is so easy to feel completely unqualified, looking at preschool setups and wondering if you are doing enough to set them up for the future.

If you are feeling that weight right now, I want to gently remind you: God put this desire on your heart for a reason.

As mothers, we are called to steward our children, teach them about His love, and guide them in a way that honors who they are. At this age, education doesn’t need to look like a stuffy classroom. It happens right in the middle of your living room, built around their natural interests and what they love to do most.

Finding What Works Without Getting Overwhelmed

If you are anything like me, a lack of organization leads straight to feeling completely overwhelmed. I love simplicity—I don’t like overcomplicating things. I just need a clear list of what I need to do so I can visually see tasks being accomplished.

When we first began looking into options, we started out using a wonderful free resource called ABCJesusLovesMe. Because I wanted to know exactly what to do next without having to piece it all together from scratch, I eventually chose the paid curriculum path for the 4-year-old level.

It has been an absolute blessing for our home. It walks you through each week and literally plans everything out for you. If you ever feel confused about how to teach a certain concept or wonder if you’re doing it right, they even have helpful videos. There is a massive amount of information available (and a lot of it is completely free online), but having that structured path brought so much peace and order to our days.

Keeping Our Days Anchored and Simple

Having a structured curriculum is wonderful, but daily life still needs a steady rhythm to keep things peaceful. To keep our days flowing smoothly without getting bogged down by a rigid schedule, I like to write our plans out week by week so I always know what is coming next.

That exact desire for a clean, no-fuss layout is why I designed a minimalist weekly homeschool planner, which you can find in my Etsy shop. It has no complicated boxes or unrealistic expectations—just a straightforward list of what needs to happen each week, a satisfying checklist so you can visually see your progress, and a dedicated spot at the bottom for any extra notes.

Do It Scared

If God has placed homeschooling on your heart, but you feel super nervous, under-equipped, and completely unsure of where to even begin, I want you to know that it is okay to feel that way. We were all standing right where you are at some point.

When the self-doubt creeps in, remember that you don’t have to navigate it alone. Do your research, pray, and ask God for daily guidance. He will help you every single step of the way—I know He has with me, time and time again.

DO IT SCARED. You’ve got this, Mama.
