If you’re a mom of little ones, you already know what quiet time sometimes looks like.

You wake up hoping to get a few peaceful minutes with your Bible before the day starts. Maybe you pour your coffee, sit down, and open your Bible…

…and when you look back up, your sleepy little daughter is suddenly standing right next to you — hair a mess, eyes half open — and she scares the living daylights out of you.

Apparently toddlers move silently before sunrise.

And just like that, the quiet moment you hoped for is, poof, gone.

I try to read my Bible in the morning if my girls will give me that leisure but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. Some days it turns into random moments throughout the day. And honestly, there are days when I feel like I barely have time at all.

There’s always something that needs to be done.

A mess to clean up.

A little one needing attention.

If you’re a mom, you probably understand exactly what I mean.

And if I’m being honest, sometimes I feel guilty about it.

I want to spend time in God’s Word. I want to sit quietly in His presence. But motherhood is busy, loud, and unpredictable.

But here’s something that has helped me tremendously:

Memorizing just one scripture a week.

Not chapters.

Not long devotionals.

Just one verse.

A Verse That Carried Me Through a Hard Season

There was a season in my life when I clung tightly to a few particular verses.

My husband and I were trying to get pregnant, and month after month it just wasn’t happening. Then we experienced a miscarriage, and I was completely devastated.

All I wanted was a child of our own.

During that time, I kept coming back to these words from Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

When I read those words, it felt like God was speaking straight to my heart. They reminded me that even though I couldn’t see the whole picture, God already knew the plans He had for our lives.

Another verse that stayed with me during that season was from Proverbs 3:5-6:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight.”

I didn’t understand why things were happening the way they were. But those words reminded me that I didn’t have to have all the answers. My job was simply to trust Him.

I held on to those verses through the hard days. I repeated them. I thought about them often. And little by little, they reminded me that God’s plans are always bigger and better than our own—even when His timing looks different than we expected.

The Reality of Motherhood and Quiet Time

Now that I have kids, quiet time doesn’t always look the way I imagined it would.

Some days, when things feel overwhelming, I sneak away to the bathroom or the kitchen to just breathe for a minute.

And that’s actually where a lot of my prayers happen.

If you walked into my kitchen, you’d probably notice something funny.

Sticky notes.

Everywhere.

They’re above my sink, on the cupboard, on the back door.

Little verses, little prayers, little reminders waiting for me.

They’re there for those moments when I only have two seconds to pause, breathe, cry, and read God’s Word.

I have them in my bathroom and even in my closet too—my little “go-to” spots when I just need a minute.

And honestly… it helps so much.

Because even in those tiny moments, I’m reminded that God is there.

Why Memorizing One Verse Is So Powerful

When you repeat scripture throughout the day, something beautiful happens.

It begins to settle into your heart.

It shapes your thoughts.

It gives you truth to cling to when you’re tired, overwhelmed, or having one of those really hard days.

The more you repeat it, the more it becomes part of you.

God’s Word was never meant to stay on a page.

It was meant to live in our hearts.

A Simple Way to Start

If you’re a busy mom, here’s a simple way to begin.

1. Pick one verse for the week.

Choose something short and meaningful.

2. Write it down.

Put it somewhere you’ll see it often:

  • on your fridge
  • on your bathroom mirror
  • on a sticky note in the kitchen
  • as your phone lock screen

3. Repeat it throughout your day.

Say it while:

  • washing dishes
  • folding laundry
  • driving somewhere
  • putting your kids to bed

4. Think about what it means.

Ask yourself:

What is God showing me through this?

A Simple Challenge for You This Week

If you feel like you don’t have time for long quiet moments with God right now, start small.

Just memorize one scripture this week.

Write it somewhere you’ll see it.

Repeat it throughout your day.

Let it sink into your heart.

You might be surprised how much one small verse can change your thoughts, your perspective, and even your day.

Because even in the chaos of motherhood…

God’s Word still speaks.

Try Starting With This Verse

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Carry it with you this week.

Repeat it.

Think about it.

Let it guide your heart.

If this post encouraged you, try memorizing one verse this week and see how it impacts your day.

And if you’re a busy mom like me, remember this:

You don’t need perfect quiet time for God to meet you right where you are.

Sometimes the most powerful moments with Him happen in the middle of the chaos.
